2024 Ekka Paddock to Palate Success
The Grove entered 4 pens of steers into this years Ekka Paddock to Palate for the following results:
Champion Individual Carcase Class 38 – 70 Day HGP Trade Class
Reserve Champion Pen of Six Carcases - Class 38
Reserve Champion Pen of Six Overall - Class 38
Champion Weight Gain - Class 40 100 Day HGP Free Export Class - 2.45kgs/day
4th & 7th Place Pen of Six Overall – Class 40
7th Place Pen of Six Overall – Class 37 100 Day HGP Export Class
Takeaway from these results for The Grove is again our ability to hit market specs across all feeding regimes.
Class 40 Weight Gain of 2.45kgs/day on feed compared to an overall average of 2.00kgs /day equates to an incredible 45kgs/head live weight gain over the competition average. Combine this with the fact that our entries in this class also had significantly higher EMA (90cm compared to 86cm comp average) and higher marbling and higher MSA index average is backing our breeding objectives of “Quality Beef- More of It”
Rosedale and The Grove dominate 70-day trade class
The RNA's Paddock to Palate competition is a gift that keeps giving for the Morgan family, The Grove Shorthorns, Condamine, as they claimed another champion carcase award.

22 Years of Paddock to Palate Success
Highlights from
1999 - 2021
The results achieved over the 23 years of entering cattle in the RNA’s feedlot/carcase and nose Paddock to Palate competitions have been very rewarding for The Grove.
The reason we think this competition is so relevant is that it’s unbiased - all the cattle are entered into the feedlot on the same day and fed the same ration under the same conditions. The results provide a good benchmark on where our cattle are sitting in the industry, which is important to know.
We think The Grove’s consistent success over many years validates that our breeding program is on target for what we are trying to achieve.
